AIB Junior Cup Kicks Off New Year Club Action

Club rugby kicks into action this weekend with the opening round of the AIB Junior Cup. Sixteen junior clubs will battle it out for the title, including cup holders Navan.

Leinster clubs have had stranglehold on the AIB Junior Cup in the last two seasons with Seapoint and then Navan taking the title.

One of them will be out of the running by tea-time on Saturday as they face each other in the opening round of the 2009 tournament.

Beaten finalists in 2008, Tullamore will be hoping to go one better this time around. They face a tricky first round trip to Shaws Bridge to face Cooke, who are currently fifth in Section 1 of the Ulster  Kukri Qualifying League.

The match between Armagh and Crosshaven has been postponed as the pitch has been frozen all week. This game will now be played at 2 p.m. on Saturday January 10th.

The draw for the next rounds of the AIB Junior Cup and the AIB Cup will take place in Bective following the third round of the AIB Cup on Saturday, January 10.
