South Africa’s 1995 Rugby World Cup-winning captain Francois Pienaar paid a visit recently to Dr. Hickey Park, the home of AIB League Division Two club Greystones, to help train the club’s stars of the future.
Francois Pienaar surprised the ‘Stones underage players with his presence at a Sunday morning training session, where he passed on some tips, signed autographs and posed for photographs.
Greystones RFC Chairman Sonny Kenny informed the players that the Springbok great had received the William Webb Ellis Cup from Nelson Mandela at the Rugby World Cup in 1995.
He said that it was a great honour to have Pienaar at the club. Pienaar was in Ireland to give his support to the ‘Lust for Life’ campaign, which is aimed at helping men understand Testosterone Deficiency.
The campaign is aiming to encourage men over 40 to contact their GPs for a clinical assessment if they suspect they have low levels of testosterone.
“Men all over the world are slow to visit their GP if they are concerned about their health,” Pienaar said.
“I’m told that this isn’t any different here in Ireland and it really is a shame, as men are exposing themselves to unnecessary risk by not getting appropriate medical advice at the earliest possible opportunity.”
