UL Bohemians Officially Open New Clubhouse

AIB League Division One club UL Bohemians had a day to remember on Saturday as they crowned the opening of their new clubhouse at Thomond Park Stadium with a 24-6 win over their Limerick rivals Young Munster.

UL Bohemians’ new premises at Thomond Park were officially opened by IRFU President John Lyons and Limerick’s Deputy Mayor, Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon, whose father played for Bohs in the first ever game at Thomond Park.

The clubhouse was blessed by the Rev Donal McNamara of St. Munchin’s and Dean Sirr of St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Bohs PRO Denis Ryan informs us that an extra prayer was slipped in for success in Saturday’s league game, in order to avenge that 1934 defeat to Young Munster.

At a very enjoyable lunch, gifts were exchanged between UL Bohs President Mick Goggin and his Young Munster counterpart Declan Edwards, as well as the IRFU.

To continue the spirit of ecumenism, Shannon clubman Donnacha Ryan was welcomed when he received a presentation from John Lyons, the IRFU President, as a memento of his first Ireland cap which he gained recently against Argentina.

On Friday night, officers and members gathered to honour the Bohs squad of 50 years ago who commenced a golden run of cup and league victories.

In attendance were most of the survivors from that era, including former Ireland captain Bill Mulcahy and his fellow former Lion Mick English, who was recently inducted in the Irish Rugby Writers’ Hall of Fame.

They were joined by team-mates and internationals Maurice Mortell and Sean McHale, while the distinguished guests included current IRFU President John Lyons and Dom Dineen, himself a former IRFU President.
