Quinlan Cited, Team Announcement Delayed

A statement issued by the International Rugby Board on Monday evening confirmed that Ireland flanker Alan Quinlan and New Zealand prop Tony Woodcock have been cited for foul play during Saturday’s GUINNESS Series 2008 Test match at Croke Park.

Ireland flanker Alan Quinlan and New Zealand prop Tony Woodcock are both facing disciplinary action after being singled out by the IRB match citing officer Peter Larter.

Quinlan, who is alleged to have stamped on a player, and Woodcock, who was sin-binned for striking a player with his fist, will have their cases heard by IRB judicial officer, Professor Lorne Crerar.

The hearings are due to take place in the coming days but a specific date or venue has been yet to be agreed on.

The citing throws Quinlan’s participation in next Saturday’s Test against Argentina into doubt, while Woodcock is currently preparing for the All Blacks’ clash with Wales in Cardiff next weekend.

Meanwhile, due to injuries – most notably the dead legs sustained by Paul O’Connell and Rory Best – and Quinlan’s impending hearing, the Ireland team to face Argentina will now be named on Thursday and not Tuesday as originally planned.

An enlarged matchday squad will be announced on Tuesday afternoon, before the picture regarding Quinlan and the injured players becomes clearer.
