Audio Interview: Bernard Jackman

Speaking at the launch of north Dublin club Unidare RFC’s New Zealand player exchange programme, Leinster and Ireland hooker Bernard Jackman talked to Coilin Duffy about the benefits of such an initiative to Unidare’s players, his own rugby background and rise through the ranks and Saturday’s GUINNESS Series 2008 Test against New Zealand.

After training with some of the Unidare players, Bernard said: “The fact that these guys are so into rugby and really, really taking to it is a theme that runs through a lot of areas of Dublin.

“I know that Clondalkin are making great strides, and I’m coaching in Coolmine and the interest level over there is really, really high as well.

“For one of those guys to get an opportunity to go to New Zealand would be a brilliant experience for them. I was down there myself (on the summer tour) in June and everyone there is a rugby addict and expert.

“I think it’s going to be a life changing experience for one of these players and they’re very, very fortunate that the club and the organisers have done it. I hope they really, really benefit from it.”
