Ballygar School Leads The Way In Connacht

Colaiste Mhuire in Ballygar near Roscommon town was the first school affiliated to the Connacht Branch of the IRFU to complete the input of their schools players on the Registration database.

Connacht Provincial Domestic Game Manager Martin Gallagher said: “It is critical that we, in Connacht and the IRFU, have accurate figures and details of players involved in school rugby.

“Colaiste Mhuire’s Rugby Master Owen Curran has worked hard with our Projects Officer Luke Murphy to ensure that players were input correctly.

“We were delighted to reward the school with rugby balls and 4 tickets for the forthcoming Connacht v Edinburgh game at the Sportsground.”

Adrian Leddy, Branch Delegate for Creggs RFC, presented the prize to School Principal and Youth Development Officer Pat McDonagh.

“We are delighted to work and support the schools in our area. It is wonderful to have a club so full of youngsters every Saturday,” Leddy said.

“And our numbers continue to grow – Pat (our Youth Development Officer0 has done a super job encouraging these young players to take up the game.”

McDonagh added: “We are thrilled to have rugby in the school and of course we have other sports that benefit our pupils.

“I’m very grateful to Creggs RFC for their continued support and use of their facilities. I am happy that players of all ages and abilities have an interest outside and during school.”
