Italian Input at IRFU Coaching Course

There was an Italian flavour to the IRFU Level Two, Stage 4, Coaching Course in Malahide RFC at the weekend with input from the Technical Director of the Italian Rugby Federation.

The National Level 2 Course kicked off last weekend in Malahide RFC. There were 44 participants from the four Provinces in attendance.

The course is targeted at Stage 4 Rugby focusing on the Player as ‘Specialist’; the Coach as ‘Facilitator’ and the Game as ‘Outcome’ oriented. The Rugby specific focus was on coaching ‘Problem-solvers’ based on Functional Role Analysis.

Franco Ascione (Technical Director of the Italian Rugby Federation) presented the module on General Movement which generated many discussions & debates throughout the weekend.

Other Tutors who helped drive the course were Ray Ward (the Scrum), Eric Elwood (The Selection Process), Colin Moran (Skill Development), Brian Walsh (Backline Attack), Stephen Aboud (Game Appreciation), Colin McEntee (Restarts) and recent interim Ireland Senior Coach, Michael Bradley (Man-Management).

Alistair Brown and Wayne Mitchel assisted with the facilitation of module workshops throughout the three days.

The participants will assemble again next Friday morning in Malahide RFC to complete the course.
