Peter Fitzgibbon Joins IRFU Leisure Rugby Department

The Irish Rugby Football Union are delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Fitzgibbon as the Union’s Leisure Rugby Referee Development Officer.

Peter Fitzgibbon is a Munster Association of Referees (MAR) refereee and comes from a Thomond RFC background in his playing days.

A highly experienced referee officiating in AIB League, Magners League, Heineken Cup rugby and various age-group international levels, ‘Fitz’ is currently busy running games in the IRB Junior World Championship, which is being held in Wales.

His next match at the tournament will be the semi-final between England and South Africa at Cardiff Arms Park on Wednesday.

The role he is undertaking with the IRFU Leisure Rugby Department will entail the recruiting, training and development of referees for the likes of the IRFU’s Tag programme, Budweiser Tag, which is currently in full swing around the country, and maintain the high standards required for such a programme to base its success upon.
