Cornelius Chosen As New ‘Quins Coach

Former Instonians coach Bruce Cornelius will take over the coaching duties at Belfast Harlequins next season, following in the footsteps of Andy Ward.

Bruce Cornelius has been appointed as Harlequins’ new head coach, with the New Zealander determined to secure promotion for the club back to AIB League Division One next season.

Cornelius is well known in club rugby circles for his stint as a second row for Instonians in the 1990s and his coaching role at Shaw’s Bridge under former Inst director of rugby John McKibbin.

The Kiwi stepped down from coaching Inst after their 2004/05 Division Three final defeat to Greystones at Lansdowne Road.

More recently, he was head of rugby at Northumbria University in Newcastle from 2005 to this year and he also coached at Shirley RFC in his native New Zealand in 2003.

With playing experience at Manawatu, Ulster and Instonians, Cornelius is no doubt looking forward to next season’s AIB League Division Two derby between Harlequins and Instonians, who won the recent Division Three final.
