Focus On: Budweiser Tag In ‘The South’

This year sees our Tag programme expanding to a colossal size with host clubs staging Tag in various formats all across that proud rugby province of Munster.

All across Munster, clubs will be hopping with activity over the summer as Budweiser Tag expands to an even greater reach.

Starting ‘over yonder west’, the renowned Garryowen FC will build upon an exciting 2007 and host vibrant Tag season for all involved as will Nenagh Ormond in North Tipperary. Twilight Tag, our spring league, is already underway at Bruff RFC with some great games being played.

Back down to the South West, Budweiser Tag for the first time is in County Kerry. Dingle, in fact with the hosting by Rugbai Corca Dhuibhne (Dingle Rugby Club) of Budweiser Beach Tag on June 7. This is our first Beach Tag festival of the year and promises to be an exciting day out for all at this lovely part of the coast and beautiful beach.

On July 5, Munster’s second Beach Tag event will be hosted by Clonakilty RFC and held at Inchydoney Beach on that most scenic Cork coast.

The Munster Provincial Tag Championships will be held at Clonmel RFC on June 28. These are ‘open’ to all, by the way. No qualification needed and will be a monster day out for Taggers and their families!

In Cork, Tag is booming like never before. With venues such as Kinsale RFC, Midleton RFC, Musgrave Park (co-hosted by Dolphin RFC and Sunday’s Well RFC) and then Twilight Tag in full swing at Crosshaven RFC, its no wonder that Tag is huge in this part of the world.

To round off this whirlwind trip around Munster’s Tag venues, we come to Waterpark RFC  in Waterford City. This venue has grown even more still and boasts 32 teams competing in various grades for 10 weeks through the summer. If last year was anything to go by, Waterpark RFC will typify a successful Tag Rugby venue. This venue is full save for 3 spots in its A grade.

If you have any queries on any of these Budweiser Tag venues be they festival, championships or a summer league, please feel free to contact us on tag@irishrugby.ie

Next edition, we travel onwards to the Sunny South East!
