Connacht Supporter’s Condition Improves

Following Connacht’s Magners League defeat to Ulster at Ravenhill two weeks ago, there was an unfortunate incident which took place post-match concerning a Connacht supporter.

Paul Newton had travelled to Belfast from his home in Sligo to support Connacht in their annual derby encounter with Ulster.

While returning to his hotel in the city centre following the game, Paul was the victim of an unprovoked attack, which left him in critical condition.

Everybody involved with rugby in Connacht was shocked on hearing the news but were relieved to hear that there was some improvement in his condition since the incident.

Connacht CEO Gerry Kelly expressed his concern for Paul and wished him and his family a swift recovery on behalf of everybody involved with rugby in Connacht.

“Since his attack following the match between Connacht and Ulster, we’ve been in constant touch with his family and were delighted to hear that there was an improvement in his condition over the last few days,” Kelly said.

“We have also remained in contact with the Ulster Branch who are equally concerned for Paul’s condition.

“We realise that he still has a long way to go to making a full recovery and the thoughts and prayers of everybody involved with Connacht rugby are with him and his family at this time.”
