Rainey Old Boys Seek New Coach

Rainey Old Boys are seeking applications for the position of coach or player-coach for the 2008/09 season. Rainey, who won the inaugural AIB Junior Cup in 2006, finished third from bottom in Division Three of the AIB League this season.

Rainey Old Boys are seeking applications for the position of coach or player-coach for the 2008/09 season. The Magherafelt-based club were promoted to the AIB League in 2006 and finished mid table in the 2006/07 season.

They slipped back slightly this season, finishing third from bottom but well clear of the relegated City Of Derry and Waterpark.

Rainey Old Boys started out life as Magherafelt RFC. Magherafelt RFC was founded in 1928. Some success at minor level came the club’s way before the outbreak of war.

A few games were played during the war years and from 1947, the club became known as Rainey Old Boys RFC.

Former Ireland captain Willie Anderson has stepped down as Rainey’s coach this season. He said: “I enjoyed a fabulous year with players who wanted to change, learn and develop.”
