Stadium Demolition Wins Award

The new Lansdowne Road Stadium is starting to take shape but the demolition of the old stadium has garnered an industry award.

The way in which the demolition of the old Lansdowne Road was carried out has won an industry award for DSM Demolition, the UK demolition company used by McNamara/Somague SV in carrying out their contract.

In giving the award, the judges particularly noted the challenges faced by DSM given the surrounding residential properties and also the fact that the old West Stand spanned the railway line.

The work was carried out over a four-month period at the height of which DSM had over 150 operatives working on site.

A centre has been set up where it is possible to view some drawings, models and footage of works carried out on site to date.

The opening hours to visitors are between Monday to Friday (9am-5pm) and Saturdays (9am-1pm). The visitors’ centre is located just inside Gate number 7 on Lansdowne Road.

To arrange to access the visitors’ centre, please call Reception on tel: 01-2382300.
