AIB Cup Semi-Final Falls Victim To The Weather

Saturday’s AIB Cup semi-final between Division One duo Galwegians and Shannon had to be called off due to adverse weather conditions out west.

Match referee Colin Stanley from Ulster held a pitch inspection at 10am at Crowley Park and ruled that the conditions were too bad for the fixture to go ahead.

The decision came through before the AIB League and Cup-chasing Shannon squad had boarded the team bus.

It is likely that the game will be replayed next weekend as the AIB League round 13 and 14 matches are down for decision on the following two Saturdays – March 22 and 29. However, no new date for the semi-final has been confirmed as of yet.

The second AIB Cup semi-final between Dublin rivals Blackrock College and Clontarf is taking place tomorrow (Sunday) at Stradbrook (kick-off 2.30pm).
