Corkman David Wallace certainly seems to like playing at Croke Park. He scored Ireland’s opening try in their 34-13 victory over Scotland on Saturday, meaning the flanker has now touched down twice in Ireland’s four games to date at the Jones’s Road venue.
Reflecting on his try against the Scots, Wallace told IrishRugby.ie: “It’s always nice to score a try at any stage and especially one that comes around so easily. It was one from the training park that we practiced during the week.
“It was deft skills from Jamie (Heaslip) to feed the pass inside to me and it worked a treat. We were quite clinical. Anything that arose, any sniff of a try we took.
“Even ones that needed unbelievable skills by some of the backs – Ronan (O’Gara) and Andrew Trimble. Even Marcus Horan in the corner to catch that ball at full tilt, no mean feat for a prop!”
Wallace, who also scored two weeks ago in Paris, is Ireland’s joint-top scorer in the 2008 Six Nations with two tries. Recalled winger Tommy Bowe’s brace against Scotland has him level, while the championship’s current leading try scorer is France winger Vincent Clerc.
