Ulster: Club News

Malone have been busy refurbishing on and off the pitch with Gibson park getting a makeover and the club getting a brand new website. Meanwhile the Ulster Junior Clubs will be coached by Clogher Valley’s Glenn Kyle.

Malone

Things are certainly looking up for Malone RFC, both on and off the field. The club’s first team are currently fourth in AIB League Division Two table on the back of some excellent results since the league’s start in October.

Malone’s clubhouse and pitches got a makeover during the summer months and the Gibson Park grounds are looking resplendent and are a real credit to the hard work of the likes of Stuart Kennedy, Gary Quantrill and Irwin McGorman.

Not only that, the Belfast club’s website, http://www.malone-rfc.com/, has been redesigned into a site that many professional clubs would be envious of. Regular match reports, photos, up-to-date news items, a forum and sections for Seniors, Youths, Minis and Women’s rugby – it is a smashing effort. Well done to the team involved.

Ulster Junior Clubs

Meanwhile, Clogher Valley’s Glenn Kyle has been selected as the head coach of the Ulster Junior team for the upcoming Interprovincial campaign, which begins in April.

Kyle will be joined in the management team by manager John Todd (Donaghadee RFC), assistant coach Brian Wilson of Lisburn RFC and resources manager Bill Savage (Dromore RFC).

The Ulster Junior squad, picked from players in Sections 1 and 2 of the Ulster Qualifying League, will come together for their first training session early in the new year.

Commenting on Ulster’s Junior Interpro campaign, John Todd said: “We have two young and enthusiastic coaches who are very focused and I am looking forward to working with them.”

Ulster’s two home matches in the Interpro series – against Connacht on April 26 and Leinster on May 10 – will be hosted by Armagh RFC and Bangor RFC respectively.
