St. Mary’s College RFC’s 50 Year Celebration Dinner

St. Mary’s College RFC won their first Leinster Senior Cup 50 years ago this season. To mark the occasion the Dublin club are hosting a celebration dinner in their clubhouse in November.

Friday, November 23 will be a night of celebration and memories at Templeville Road as St. Mary’s College RFC celebrate 50 years since their first Leinster Senior Cup win.

The squad which proudly brought back that first cup was captained by Joe ‘Banana’ Fanagan and included Vinnie McGovern, Brian Hussey, Paddy Dowling, Ken Wall, Derry Hussey, Sean Cooke, Michael Hoctor, Dick Whitty, Hugh Kerrigan (RIP), Jack Bagnall, Tony Cusack (RIP), John Lee, Nicky Corrigan, Ned Carmody and Barney Kelly.

The Celebration Dinner will be a night for members, old and new, to celebrate that first cup and all the subsequent victories that St. Mary’s have enjoyed down through the years – with a gathering in attendance from all the club’s subsequent cup winning sides and the Irish internationals of recent and older vintage.

The club is very proud of their tradition in the Leinster Senior Cup, sparked off all those years ago by that team, and will be making a presentation to them on the night.

Ken Ging, himself a player of note with the club in years gone by, will add to the occasion by taking a run down memory lane in his own inimitable fashion, and the evening will be topped off with some very special entertainment  which has the seal of approval from the captain himself.

Members should contact Paddy McGlade (tel: 0872950500), Conal Cassidy (tel: 0872551147) or Niall Rynne (tel: 0872306492).
