Ulster’s Del Fava Ruled Out Of World Cup

A knee injury has cruelly ended the World Cup hopes of Ulster’s Italian lock Carlo Del Fava, with the 25-year-old having flown back to Belfast to begin the recovery process.

The former Bourgoin clubman, who signed for Ulster in March, picked up the injury during a training camp with the Italian World Cup squad last week and has since left the Italian set-up to receive treatment under the watchful eye of the Ulster Rugby medical staff.

Del Fava was born in South Africa to an Italian father and made his debut for Italy in the final game of the 2004 Six Nations against Wales. He has won a total of 21 caps to date.

Ulster are hopeful that their new lock, who is responding well to rehab at the moment, will be fit for the start of the Magners League. Mark McCall’s side begin their campaign at home to the Ospreys on September 21, following two pre-season friendlies against Leeds Carnegie (August 31) and Gloucester (September 8).
