Knee Injury Leaves Hanna’s Season In Doubt

Ulster’s new hooker Neil Hanna is set to miss a large chunk if not all of the 2007/08 season after sustaining a serious knee injury in training this week.

Hanna, who joined Ulster Rugby this summer from English Division One side Rotherham, sustained the injury to his knee in training and following an investigation and orthopedic opinion, the 26-year-old will require reconstructive surgery.

It is anticipated that the Belfast man will need to undergo a period of rehabilitation lasting between six and nine months.

On a more positive note, Ulster lock Matt McCullough returned to pitch-work this week with the province’s conditioning staff following foot surgery earlier this summer. Ireland international McCullough will be re-introduced to rugby in the next few weeks with a view to being available for the start of the new season next month.
