Newstalk Announce Rugby World Cup Team

Newstalk 106-108 fm yesterday revealed their exciting line up for the Rugby World Cup 2007.

For the first time ever, an Irish independent national radio broadcaster has the exclusive radio rights to the Rugby World Cup which kicks off on the 7th September.

Newstalk 106-108 fm will be the only station on the airwaves to broadcast live commentary on 18 games in the World Cup. This will include coverage of the opening game, all of Ireland’s games, quarter finals, both semi-finals and the final.

Rugby is a strong part of Newstalk 106-108 fm’s sports programming. Joining the regular Newstalk 106-108 fm sports team including “Off the Ball” presenter, Eoin McDevitt and Weekend Sports presenter, Jerry O’Sullivan, will be their World Cup team including George Hook, Keith Wood and Mick Galwey.

George Hook commented “For the first time a major world championship will be covered by independent radio. It is an honour to be involved and we plan to deliver the best coverage ever of an event of this magnitude on Irish radio.”

This winning team is strengthened by the contribution of former Ireland players Noel Mannion, Moss Finn and Mick Quinn.

The commentary team on the ground in France will be George Hook, Brendan Hennessy, Hugh Cahill and Oisin Langan, whilst Newstalk rugby reporter Simon Hick will follow the Irish team for the duration of the tournament.

In addition to being the exclusive radio broadcaster, Newstalk will also feature a player’s diary from Shane Horgan.
