Maher Named As New Lansdowne Captain

Alan Maher, the club’s Player of the Year last year, has been announced as the Lansdowne club captain for 2007/08.

Second row Maher takes over the skipper’s role from David Lavin and is well equipped to do so having represented Ireland at Schools, Under-19 and Club international level.

The 26-year-old, a former Connacht player, has started for Ireland in all three of the AIB Club internationals to date – twice against Scotland, and once against England last season.

Maher previously played for Corinthians and Dublin University and got his rugby grounding at St Joseph’s College in Galway.

Lansdowne’s first team begin the new season with a friendly against Barnhall on August 25, before the start of the Leddin Finance Leinster Senior Championship.
