Munster Supporters Club Honours For Hayes And Ryan

John Hayes and Donnacha Ryan were announced this week as the winners of the Munster Rugby Supporters Club’s Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards for the 2006/07 campaign.

The Munster Rugby Supporters Club recently polled all 9000 members, asking them to vote for their choice of Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season.

For overall player award, it was a close affair between David Wallace, Shaun Payne and John Hayes. Having already won the Munster Rugby Player of the Year gong, experienced prop Hayes polled 39% of the vote to complete a unique double and be voted the supporters’ choice as this season’s most outstanding player in Munster red.

Hayes received his award from the Supporters Club PRO Glenn Flanagan during the half-time interval of Munster’s final Magners League game against Glasgow Warriors at Musgrave Park last Saturday.

The Young Player of The Season category was also a tight run affair, with Tomas O’Leary, Denis Hurley and Donnacha Ryan all in contention.

But Ryan emerged victorious after some stirring performances, culminating in his inclusion in the squad for the Heineken Cup quarter-final against Llanelli. The big Shannon lock polled 33% of the vote to win the award and Supporters Club committee member Elaine Blackshields was on hand at Musgrave Park to present Donnacha with his award.
