Australian Bibo Signs For Connacht

Former Australian Under-21 international Liam Bibo, who boasts an Irish passport, has agreed to join Connacht for next season. Bibo is an assured goal-kicker who can play at full-back or on the wing.

Connacht have been tracking the progress of Bibo, who turned 21 in March, since he was spotted playing for Australia’s Under-21s last year. He joins the province from the ACT Brumbies.

It is another astute signing by Connacht coach Michael Bradley who is hoping to turn around the westerners’ fortunes after a disappointing season which saw them fail to qualify for the European Challenge Cup’s knockout stages and finish second-from-bottom in the Magners League.

Bibo was an underage star in Australia, playing at schoolboy level for Queensland and the national side, and also being capped at Under-19 and Under-21 levels internationally.

The absence of Paul Warwick and Mark McHugh from the Connacht squad next season may pave the way for Bibo, who stands at 5ft 11in and weighs in at 13st 9lbs, to take on the goal-kicking responsibilities for the province.
