AIB League Structures To Remain In Place

Following a special meeting to discuss the AIB League, the Irish Rugby Football Union has agreed that the structure of the league from 2008/09 will remain a competition of three divisions consisting of 16 clubs in each division.

The next review of the AIB League structures will take place after a minimum of two seasons (2009/10). This decision has been taken following a widespread consultation and review process.

The review process included the views of all the constituent clubs participating in the competition, and the IRFU believes that this structure is in the best interested of Irish rugby at this time.

Maurice Crowley, General Manager of AIB Bank, said: “We are delighted that the IRFU has agreed to maintain the Domestic Community Rugby Programme and all its constituents comprising the three-division AIB League, the AIB Cups and the International Club team elements.

“The Community Rugby Programme continues to be an excellent fit for the AIB sponsorship portfolio.”
