IRFU Reaction To Match Commissioner Findings

The IRFU and Ireland team have issued a statement following the findings of the match citing commissioner on duty at Saturday’s Six Nations match between Scotland and Ireland at Murrayfield.

“Following the match commissioner’s findings that there were no citable acts of foul play during the Scotland v Ireland game and specifically at the end of the match, the Ireland squad and management accept the decision and now consider the matter closed,” the statement read.

“The IRFU also state that at no point did Irish coach Eddie O’Sullivan say that Ronan O’Gara could have died as a result of an incident late in the game.

“This was in fact a misquote from the Irish press conference that took place yesterday morning (Sunday) and it is anticipated that the remarks attributed to Eddie O’Sullivan will be retracted by the publiciations that used them.”

RBS Six Nations Rugby Ltd issued a statement confirming that the match commissioner, Brian Fowler of Wales, had found no incidents of foul play to cite.

“After studying all the footage and evidence provided to him after the match, using all means at his disposal in the time permitted of 50 hours from kick-off, including enhanced images on game analysis software, the independent citing commissioner has found no incidents of foul play to cite under the 6 Nations and IRB regulations under which all matches in the RBS 6 Nations championship are played,” it read.
