This years High King Tens tournament at Navan RFC on the weekend of August 26th/27th will be the biggest event since it started in 2001 with 11 teams. This year over 40 teams are expected to take part over the festival rugby weekend.

The weekend will kick-off with the annual High King Tens dinner in the club house on the Friday (25th August) night with a number of well known celebrities in attendance.

The High King Tens committee under the chairmanship of Colm Horton is delighted to announce the main sponsors of the tournament Heineken have committed themselves to the tournament until 2008. This year the high King Tens committee is also very pleased to announce the sponsorship of O’B Sports as the sponsor for the Men’s and Veteran’s competition. The sponsors for the junior men’s are Maxol/Riverside Filling Station, Navan who are most welcome back for this years tournament.

Already among the clubs/teams who have entered for the various categories of the High King Tens are Armagh, Boyne, Coolmine, Clontarf, Enniscorthy, Instonians, Naas, Navan, Old Belvedere, Richmond, Seapoint, Suttonians, UCD, Youghal and the Exiles to name but a few entries already received, with more to come. With teams coming from all four provinces of the country the High King Ten’s has truly become a national event in the Irish rugby calendar.

The High king Tens is a great opportunity for clubs/teams to blend new and up and coming players into their squads for the new season. The rugby will commence on the Saturday 26th August at 11am with the junior men’s competition which will be completed on the same day. In the women’s competition all the pool games will be completed with the knock-out rounds finishing the next day Sunday 27th August. The senior men’s competition will be played to its conclusion on the Sunday 27th August kicking off at 11 am. The veteran’s men’s competition will also be played on the Sunday 27th August.

Each evening there will be music and craic to end each day’s rugby activity on the field of play. Apart from those teams and supporters staying in hotels and bed and breakfast guest houses in the area there is a designated camp site on the club grounds for those who like to sleep under the stars.

Navan R.F.C. and the High King Tens committee are looking forward to making new friends and reviving old acquaintances.
