Connacht to play Narbonne in warm up

Connacht will travel to France to play Narbonne in a pre-season warm up this month.

Connacht will renew acquaintances with old rivals Narbonne when the sides clash in a pre-season friendly in the south of France on Saturday, August 12th.

The game will take place at Parc des Sports et de L’Amitie, a venue where Connacht won a European Challenge Cup quarter-final three years ago in one of the many meetings between the two sides.

Connacht and Narbonne have met five times in the European Challenge Cup. Their rivalry began when they clashed in the same pool in 1998/99. Narbonne triumphed on their visit to Galway. There were seven teams in each of the three pools and there were not any home-and-away ties. The sides were again drawn in the same pool in 2001/02. Connacht won 18-6 at home but went down 34-22 away.

There have been some great games between us over the years so it will be a good test for us ahead of the new season. We are looking forward to the trip,” said Connacht manager Tim Allnutt.
