Ahead of the new Magners League season, the Connacht squad turned up the heat on a training visit to Connemara RFC last week.

Against a picturesque backdrop of mountains and lakes, the Connacht players were put through their paces by coach Michael Bradley and assistant coach Eric Elwood on what was the second hottest day of the summer since records began.

Bradley, whose side begin the new League season away to the Borders in September, said: “It’s important, even at this early stage of the season, to push the players during training.

“Even in this heat, it test their composure to maintain their skills.”

Connacht team manager Tim Allnutt, a native of Waimate in New Zealand, admitted that the response to the players from the local people was particularly pleasing.

“It’s great to get a response like this in Connemara,” said the former centre and captain.

“This is the first time since I’ve been here that we’ve trained at this club and we’ll definitely be back in years to come.”
