…Ross Noonan…

Team manager Niall O’Shea relays the latest news from inside the Irish camp at the IRB Under-21 World Championship in France.

“Ross Noonan flew home on Sunday morning due to a hamstring injury and (his UCC colleague) Michael Essex arrived in Clermont that afternoon.

“Following the defeat to France on Friday, the squad have put that disappointment behind them and are looking forward to meeting Argentina today. An even greater battle lies ahead for the forwards. Argentina have a very large and physical pack and were only narrowly beaten by South Africa, last year’s World Championship winners, on Friday.

“The players enjoyed a night off from rugby on Saturday night and went out for a meal. All five new caps were presented with their caps. The players also made a special presentation on the night to (coach) Mark McDermott to celebrate his 35th birthday.”

“I think the weather could have the biggest effect on today’s game against Argentina. It will be 30 degrees at kick-off time and Argentina will be more accustomed to playing in these conditions. How our guys handle the heat could have a huge bearing on the end result.”
