Dublin University director of rugby Tony Smeeth has been selected as part of a revamped coaching team for the US Eagles.

Smeeth, whose Trinity side were relegated from AIB League Division One last month, has been appointed as assistant to head coach Peter Thorburn, a vastly experienced New Zealander, for next month’s Churchill Cup.

Michael Bradley’s Ireland “A” outfit will line out against the Eagles in the Churchill Cup opener in Santa Clara, California on June 3. The Eagles are also scheduled to face Barbados (July 1) and Canada (August 12) in qualifiers for the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

Smeeth, a former coach of the USA Under-19s, will return to Dublin University on August 13.
