Hogan Confirmed As Leinster Signing

Leinster have completed the signing of Tipperary-born lock Trevor Hogan from provincial rivals Munster.

Following on from Leinster’s recent signing of back row Stephen Keogh, also from Munster, and Australian scrum half Chris Whitaker, the 26-year-old Ireland international Hogan – capped twice on last summer’s tour to Japan – will link up with his new province in the summer.

Hogan has made 54 senior appearances for Munster (49 in the Celtic League), and scored one League try after making his senior debut in September 2002. He made his Heineken Cup debut in October 2004 and has made four further appearances in the competition to date this season.

Standing at 6ft 6in and weighing 107kg, the powerful lock was also a key member of Shannon’s last two victorious AIB League Division One campaigns.

Hogan, whose younger brother Ray is a loosehead prop with Connacht, has one Ireland Youth cap to his name and his previous clubs also include Nenagh Ormond RFC, where he started his career, Blackrock College RFC and Dublin University, where he twice earned his Colours.

Commenting on Hogan’s signing, Leinster coach Michael Cheika said: “I am delighted that Trevor has made the decision to sign with Leinster.

“He is a very talented player who we know is going to make a significant contribution to our team and its ambitions going forward. His power and energy for the game in taking his opportunities to date is something that I respect in the player.

“I am looking forward to working with him closely next season.”
