Pictured above: South African referee Jonathan Kaplan strains to see David Wallace’s grounding of his try. The 24th-minute score, which went unconverted, was awarded – it was flanker Wallace’s 5th try in 25 Tests.

Wallace is already looking forward to Scotland’s visit to Lansdowne Road on March 11. He said: My run in the team has done a lot for me. Your confidence can dip if you don’t get a regular run in the side. But it’s great to get some consistency – this season is going well for me.

“I scored a try last time I played Scotland. It was a great day. I came in from the blue after watching Ireland’s previous games from home. I got my chance when Keith Gleeson was injured and it was brilliant to be part of that Triple Crown side. It would be great to do that again.

“Scotland played a really aggressive, in your face defence against England and deserved to win. It will be a tough match in two weeks’ time.”

Ireland captain Brian O’Driscoll congratulates David Wallace on his try.

Welsh full-back Lee Byrne stops Ireland hooker Jerry Flannery just short of the line. Flannery was gunning for his second try in three 6 Nations outings.

Injured lock Paul O’Connell watches proceedings from the West Stand at Lansdowne Road. O’Connell was forced to sit out the Welsh Test due to damage to the A/C (acromio-clavicular) joint in his left shoulder.

Donncha O’Callaghan, who started in place of his Munster colleague Paul O’Connell, claims a lineout throw.
