Ireland lock Paul O’Connell, who is currently nursing a shoulder injury, has been voted irishrugby.ie users’ man-of-the-match from the recent RBS 6 Nations defeat to France.

The 26-year-old topped our most recent poll. We asked you: “Who was your man-of-the-match v France?”

Thanks to another stand-out performance as Ireland’s pack leader, which saw O’Connell play through the pain barrier, the Limerick man grabbed a 56% share of the vote with 1730 people plumping for him as their choice.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, O’Connell said of his injury (a damaged A/C joint in his left shoulder): “The recovery was excellent once the rehab began but it has slowed down a small bit so hopefully over the next two or three days it will improve more quickly again.”

Leinster centre Gordon D’Arcy finished second in the man-of-the-match poll with 18% (572 votes), Munster’s David Wallace was third (12%, 397), Leinster centre-cum-winger Shane Horgan garnered 7% (216) for fourth while 169 people (5%) went for the “Other” option.
