The sponsorship, which is for the next three years, will also include the sponsorship of the Irish Colleges and Irish Universities teams.

PwC already sponsors the High Performance Unit, recently established by the Irish Rugby Football Union, which will be responsible for the development and implementation of a high-performance rugby pathway to cater for the progression of players through to the professional game.

This season will again be an exciting one for the Under-21 and Under-19 sides. The home games in the Under-21 Six Nations Championship against Italy and Wales will be televised live from Dubarry Park Athlone by RTE for the first time, and both teams will be playing in their respective IRB World Cup tournaments.

Commenting on the announcement, IRFU President Andy Crawford said: “It is a wonderful boost for both the Ireland Under-21 and Under-19 teams to receive this sponsorship. In addition to their role as sponsor of the PwC High Performance Unit, PricewaterhouseCoopers is playing a key role in the further development of young playing talent in Ireland. I wish both teams the best of luck in their respective competitions this season.”

Speaking at the launch, Donal O’Connor, Senior Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers, said: We are delighted to be involved in this further partnership with the IRFU. Our sponsorship reflects some key aspects of our own business. In rugby and in business having the right team working together is vital for success. At PwC, our aim is to recruit outstanding people and develop them through great training and great experience to become outstanding professional advisors.

“Our sponsorship reflects our strong commitment to supporting Ireland’s young talent and helping them in their challenge to become world class performers. We wish all the Irish teams the best of luck this season.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the IRFU – supporting Irish rugby.”
