AIB LEAGUE DIVISION ONE: Saturday, October 29

Galwegians 3 Garryowen 8, Crowley Park

Scorers: Galwegians: Pen: Brendan Bartley

Garryowen: Try: Paul Neville; Pen: Paul Burke

Burke, who was excused from the Munster squad last week due to family reasons, landed a 74th-minute penalty to maintain Garryowen’s 100% start to the Division One season.

Full-back Brendan Bartley kicked ‘Wegians into an early lead before Paul Neville dotted down Garryowen’s only try on 34 minutes from their only real incursion into the westerners’ 22 in the first half.

Burke, who came on for Conan Doyle at half-time, steadied the Limerick side’s ship late on, but ‘Wegians still squandered a try chance at the death when from a five-metre scrum, the ball squirted free and was cleared by the visitors.

Bartley was also held up just short in the final quarter.

Dungannon 6 Clontarf 3, Stevenson Park

Scorers: Dungannon: Pens: Gareth Steenson 2

Clontarf: Pen: Peter O’Brien

Clontarf lost for the second successive week as fly-half Steenson kicked Dungannon to a 6-3 success at Stevenson Park.

Steenson controlled matters from behind a ‘Gannon pack which was served well by both Stuart Lamb and Stephen Ferris.

The win moves Jeremy Davidson’s side up to tenth and was set up by two Steenson penalties in the first half.

‘Tarf should have made better use of their wind advantage in the second half, but they could only muster a penalty from Peter O’Brien.

‘Gannon full-back Stanley McDowell’s relieving boot came in handy in the closing stages as ‘Tarf attacked in vain.
