On an afternoon when four of the five clubs that will contest the inaugural AIB All-Ireland League Cup on Munster’s behalf became known, Lawlor hit the heights for Mick Galwey’s side at Towns Park.

Eddie Halvey, Brian Tuohy and Tony Buckley also touched down for the reigning AIB League Division One champions.

Meanwhile, Tipperary’s Cashel surprisingly beat AIB League Division Two side Waterpark 25-10 to make the quarter-finals of the Munster competition.

Unfortunately, due to their junior club status, Cashel are not permitted to enter the All-Ireland Senior Cup and as a result, Saturday’s losers Waterpark go through. Tries from Robert Tierney, Trevor Breen and Munster junior player Ollie McGlinchey helped set up a famous win for Cashel, who still qualified for ther latter stages of the Munster Senior Cup.

There were also weekend wins for Garryowen, who defeated hosts Young Munster 14-3, and Dolphin, who pipped Clonakilty 19-18 away from home. Kevin Hartigan and Paul Neville both crossed the whitewash for Garryowen, whose two conversions were kicked by scrum-half Gerry Hurley.

The winners of next Saturday’s AIB League Division One tie between Cork Constitution and UL Bohemians will go through as Munster’s fifth side for the AIB Cup.
