Ireland’s leading rugby and sports media have voted Irish captain Brian O’Driscoll as the Sure For Men RBS Six Nations’ Player Of The Tournament for 2005.

Ireland’s leading rugby and sports media have voted Irish captain Brian O’Driscoll as the Sure For Men RBS Six Nations’ Player Of The Tournament for 2005.

The 26-year-old O’Driscoll sustained a hamstring injury during the opening game against Italy in Rome, but after missing the 40-13 victory over Scotland the following week, the Leinster star inspired Ireland to a 19-13 defeat of World champions England – scoring the vital second-half try in the process.

O’Driscoll again touched down against France but failed to stop the 2004 Six Nations winners from prevailing 26-19 at Lansdowne Road.

O’Driscoll – readying himself for tomorrow’s crunch Heineken Cup quarter-final against Leicester – took time out from training, to be presented with his trophy this morning.
