The moment a section of the Irish public and a number of Irish internationals have waited for happened on Dublin’s Grafton Street this morning, when renowned rugby pundit George Hook was dunked!

The Newstalk 106 presenter and RTE pundit was doing his bit for the IRFU Charitable Trust, plunging his ‘ample frame’ into an icy-cold, water-filled Guinness Draught Can Dunker at the top of Grafton Street.

The Trust – founded as a registered charity (Charity Reference no: CHY6120) in 1978 is designed to assist seriously injured rugby players in their everyday lives and helps to restore their confidence and independence.

You can support the Trust – which is administered by an IRFU sub-committee, and depends on the support of the Union and fundraising, such as the dunking – by becoming a member of the ‘Friends of the Charitable Trust’.

Just click on the ‘Charitable Trust’ link on the left-hand side of this page, and fill out the attached application form.

The operation – in existence for three years – greatly helps both seriously injured players and their carers, with 500 members already signed up to the subscription-based scheme.
