Ireland Women’s bid for a first Six Nations win of 2005 came a cropper at Murrayfield on Saturday, as Cooke flanker Rachel Boyd scored their only points in a 15-5 loss to Scotland.

WOMEN’S SIX NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP:
Scotland Women 15 Ireland Women 5, Murrayfield
Scorers: Scotland: Tries: Rimma Petlevannaya, Mel Christie; Con: Paula Chalmers; Pen: Chalmers
Ireland: Try: Rachel Boyd

Phillip Doyle’s outfit – who lost their tournament opener in Spain last Saturday – were undone by two well-worked Scottish tries in either half, and the kicking of scrum-half Paula Chalmers.

The sister of former Scotland great Craig, Chalmers kicked them into a 25th-minute lead before openside Boyd touched down for a brief 5-3 lead.

Back came the Scots and a try before the break from fly-half Rimma Petlevannaya, and a second on 53 minutes from winger Mel Christie gave the home side the spoils.

The evening match – who followed the men’s Six Nations clash – marked the Test debut of 26-year-old Navan second row Orla Brennan.

* Brennan was one of a number of Doyle’s squad who were at O’B Sport headquarters in Dublin last Monday, as the sports company officially launched their sponsorship of the Women’s side.
