Exile Devlin In Munster Heineken Cup Squad

Irish Exile Paul Devlin has signed a contract with Munster and is included in their Heineken cup squad. Paul, whose father is from Dublin, was educated in England, captained England U18’s and played for England U19’s in the World Cup. He also played league and has continually switched codes during his rugby career to date.

Paul was introduced into the Exiles system by former British & Irish Lion and Exiles President, John O’Driscoll. The Exiles brought the wing/centre to the attention of the Ireland U21 selectors and he was soon wearing the green of Ireland.

Since playing for Ireland U21’s Paul has been playing Union for Sale and League for Widnes. He was brought to the attention of the home Provinces last November, with Munster in particular showing strong interest. Unfortunately Paul was injured during the Widnes tour of Australia which meant any potential move to Ireland was put on ice. During this period the Exiles Development Manager, John Hunter, played a key role maintaining communications with Paul and monitoring his recovery. He also ensured that Munster were continually updated on the situation.

Once Paul had recovered Munster opened discussion which cumulated in Paul signing his contract last week. Paul brings the total of Exiles playing professional Provincial rugby to ten.
