Ulster comfortable win away to Connacht

Ulster picked up their second win on the road in beating Connacht 19-13 at the Sportsground, Connacht’s solace being a late try to earn a bonus point

Connacht got their first points on the board early with two penalties from out-half Paul Warwick but despite playing into a stiff breeze at a blustery Sportsground, Ulster enjoyed long periods of dominence in the first half.

David Humphreys, winning his 100th cap for Ulster on his first appearance for his club this season, put Ulster on the scoresheet with a 27 minute penalty in fromt of the posts. Connacht 6 – 3 Ulster

Ulster should have made more of a spell of advantage when Connacht had two men sin-binned, but took the lead on 37 minutes when young gun Tommy Bowe touched down over the line. Connacht 6 – 8 Ulster

Ulster opened the second half with an unconverted try from centre Jonny Bell , giving the visitors a seven point cushion, Connacht 6 – 13 Ulster

Paul Warwick and David Humphreys exchanged penalties midway through the second half, Humphreys coming off the better of the two, hitting the target on 59 and 71 minutes, Connacht 6 – 19 Ulster

Just when Ulster looked to have the game sewn up, Connacht threatened with a converted try but it wasn’t enough to bridge the gap, Ulster picking up their second away win out of two in the Celtic League.

Final Score: Connacht 13 – 19 Ulster
