Australia Schools select 10 from New South Wales for test side

Ireland will be facing 10 of the New South Wales side that they defeated on Sunday in the Schools test match on Thursday, 26th August.

Australia have selected their sides for the forthcoming Schools ‘A’ and test matches. And it is apparent that their test side is going to be dominated by the New South Wales schools side that won their schools championship, as ten of the starting test lineup hail from that State.

Ireland defeated that side by 14-5 last Sunday in a deserved win, with NSW only scoring their try in injury time. Six of the pack are from NSW, so it will be interesting to see if they devise an antidote to the successful Irish rolling maul. Indeed, Ireland won the majority of possession in that match.

However, perhaps too much should not be read into that result as many of the NSW boys had played for their schools the day before.

Before that, though, Ireland must take on Australia ‘A’ this Sunday. The Aussie ‘A’ side is more broadly based, but includes a further eight from NSW.
