Sinclair Irwin RIP

The death has taken place of Sinclair Irwin, former noted Ireland international player and IRFU President.

The death has taken place of Sinclair Irwin, former noted Ireland international player and IRFU President.

A member of NIFC, he was capped as a back row forward for Ireland on five occasions in 1938-39, following in the footsteps of his father Samuel who won nine caps between 1900 and 03.

The Irwins were the first father and son combination to be Presidents of the IRFU, Samuel in 1935-36 and Sinclair in 1969-70. They were both also Presidents of the Ulster Branch.
