Celtic League Going Right Down To The Wire.

Two games to go and just two points separate the top three sides with second placed Ulster on track for a winner-take-all clash with Llanelli Scarlets in Stradey Park on Friday week.

Two games to go and just two points separate the top three sides with second placed Ulster on track for a winner-take-all clash with Llanelli Scarlets in Stradey Park on Friday week.

Still in contention and very much so, is third placed Gwent Dragons who could be the biggest gainers if either of the top two slip up. And Mike Ruddock’s side have perhaps the easier run-in with a home tie against The Borders followed by a trip to Donnybrook, Ruddock’s old stomping ground.

His side can be expected to take five points from the visit of the bottom placed Scottish side and with Ulster and Llanelli facing into difficult assignments, – home to Leinster and away to Neath-Swansea Ospreys respectively – The Dragons can improve their position, at the very least by a point.

Leinster are unlikely to do what no other side has managed all season, win at Ravenhill while Llanelli will play an Ospreys side who still need to put distance between themselves and Cardiff Blues in order to secure their place in the Heineken Cup next season.

Besides that, Ospreys’ home record is good. Last time they were beaten at home in this competition was at the end of November when Leinster turned them over.

If the games involving the top three go to form, we could have a situation whereby we’ll go into the last series of games with Ulster leading on 71 points followed by Gwent Dragons (71 pts) and Llanelli Scarlets in third on 69 points.

Alternatively, if Scarlets win in Swansea, it’ll be Scarlets leading on 72, followed by Ulster (71) and The Dragons (71).

Whichever way things go this weekend, it all boils down to a title decider in Stradey Park on Friday 14th May.
