Six tries, four in a wind assisted first half, gave Ireland an emphatic 36-15 win over Wales in the Royal Bank of Scotland Six Nations championship in Lansdowne Road today.

Man of the Match, Shane Byrne opened the scoring within a minute of the kick off and he had the last say of the opening half when he scored his second. In between there were tries for captain Brian O’Driscoll and Ronan O’Gara as the Irish led 24-3 at the break.

Further tries in the second half for Anthony Foley and a second for O’Driscoll – created by a superb Keith Gleeson break – left the result beyond doubt before the end of the third quarter.

The Welsh did eventually create a little cohesion to score two late tries both from replacement Tom Shanklin.
