Marcus Horan (Munster/Shannon) has been ruled out of consideration for Ireland’s Royal Bank of Scotland Six Nations championship game against France in Paris on Saturday because of a back injury. Horan has been troubled by the injury in recent weeks and there was some surpise when he was named in the Irish squad following his withdrawal from the Munster side after just 30 minutes of their final Heineken Cup game against Bourgoin.

Prior to that Munster coach Alan Gaffney had rested Horan for the away game against Treviso while Horan left the field in the game against Gloucester a week earlier troubled by the same injury.

Stand by prop forwards Simon Best, who sustained a rib injury at the
weekend, and Justin Fitzpatrick have joined the squad today. A
decision on
Horan’s replacement will be made when the team is announced tomorrow
(Tuesday, 10th February).
