Leinster Chief Executive Mick Dawson today announced the appointment of Emmet Farrell as Technical Analyst and Skills Coach to the Leinster Lions team.

Former Leinster outhalf, Farrell (26) will also provide backup skills coaching to Gary Ella’s squad as the Leinster side gear up for the Heineken Cup.

Farrell has been assistant coach with Blackrock College RFC for two seasons (primarily with the backs.) and still plays with the Blackrock College 1st XV.

He was educated at Blackrock College, made his Ireland Schools debut in 1994 in the game against Australia (December) at Lansdowne Road and in March 1995 won a Schools Senior Cup medal when Rock defeated Clongowes 8-3.

His first international Under 21 cap came against France in Anglesea Road in January 1997, an Irish side that included Girvan Dempsey, Frank Sheahan, David Wallace and Simon Easterby. He also played at international A level before injury intrerrupted his progress.

He played eight times with the Leinster Lions, and but for knee injuries would probably form part of the present playing squad.
