Both Munster & Ulster had impressive wins in the Celtic League
on Friday night, with Munster scoring 5 tries at Musgrave Park and Ulster scoring
6 in Ravenhill.

Frankie Sheahan scored two of his side’s five tries as Munster were inspired
by the return of the Irish internationals. After 11 minutes the Welsh line was
crossed as Munster’s third line-out in quick succession saw Donnacha O’Callaghan
grasp possession and hooker Sheahan rumble over from close range.

South African wing Shaun Payne deservedly crossed for Munster’s second try
after 34 minutes, when a pick and drive by David Wallace saw O’Gara transfer
wide and centre Jason Holland loop a one-handed pass cleverly for Payne to touch
down. Centre Mike Mullins followed up his own chip to score his fifth try of
the competition three minutes later and O’Gara kicked the home side into a 17-0
lead.

Munster received a penalty try later on, awarded as the Blues sought to bring
down a rampant Munster drive close to their line, and put four converted tries
between the sides, with O’Gara kicking the extra points. A late rally by the
blues was not nearly enough and Frankie Sheahan finished the game off with a
late try.

Final Score: Munster 31 Cardiff Blues 10

Ulster easily registered their seventh Celtic League win to stay top of the
table after crushing The Borders at Ravenhill.

The game was over as a contest before half time by which time Ulster had already
scored a bonus point from crossing the visitors’ line four times. After turning
round 32-0 in front, Ulster could only manage two further tries in a second
half which they continued to dominate.

The Borders did get on the scoreboard with a late breakaway consolation try
from Nikki Walker which Tanner Vili failed to convert. Ulster, though, finished
the night with an injury-time score from replacement hooker Paul Shields. Wallace
landed his fifth conversion to complete the scoring.

Final Score: Ulster 46 Borders 5
