Irish Captain Keith Wood has announced his retirement from rugby following
the 43-21 defeat at the hands of France in the World Cup quarter-finals.

“That is it,” said Wood. “It is time to hang up the boots from
all rugby. It is a doubly sad day.” he told a post-match news conference.
“I won’t be playing any more rugby.”

Wood, 31, was an inspirational figure for both his country and the British
and Irish Lions.

He made two Lions tours and won 58 caps for his country.
