Celtic Cup – Hughenden Set To Break Attendance Record

Glasgow Rugby will take on Ulster in the semi-finals of the Celtic Cup (Fri 14th Nov) and the high profile match could smash Glasgow Rugby’s attendance record for a Celtic fixture

Glasgow Rugby will take on Ulster in the semi-finals of the Celtic Cup on Friday, 14th November – and the high profile match could smash Glasgow Rugby’s attendance record for a Celtic fixture.

Last season a Glasgow Rugby record crowd of 5,000 turned up to see
Ulster pip the home side 20-17 in the Celtic League quarter-finals.

Hughenden has a 5,500 capacity and the signs are that that figure could be reached for another Ulster visit – Glasgow Rugby urging fans to buy their tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

Gordon Hood, Glasgow’s Marketing Executive, said: “The phones have been
really busy with ticket enquiries. It promises to be a huge game and we’re delighted to have gained the home draw. Now it’s up to the Glasgow supporters to show how much of a fortress Hughenden can be!”

The visiting team are entitled to purchase 25% of the tickets and Ulster
have intimated that they will take up their full allocation.

Glasgow Rugby Chief Executive, David Jordan, said: “Ulster fans are notoriously loud in their support for their team. We suffered somewhat on their last major visit to Hughenden in last season’s Celtic League as their
fans practically out-shouted the Glasgow support. The Glasgow fans are a proud bunch and I’m sure they won’t want that to happen again! We’re greatly looking forward to welcoming supporters to Hughenden to cheer Glasgow onto a place in the final.”

Hood added: “If you’ve never been to Hughenden for a match before, this is a great opportunity to come along and sample the electric
atmosphere that is Friday nights with Glasgow Rugby.”
